Results from 1,522 votes in the Keep Cov in Cov (kcic) Survey of CCFC Fans
***A report on the survey results is in the Coventry Telegraph at http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/new...-blame-6413777 ***
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey! With 1,522 votes, this is the biggest survey of CCFC fans since the Club was relocated to Northampton. A wide range of Sky Blues supporters participated including people who do and don’t go to sixfields, supporters in Coventry and Warwickshire, elsewhere in the UK and overseas, and so on. The survey does not claim to provide definitive answers regarding the views of CCFC fans but it is reasonable to believe it is strongly indicative of supporters’ views and that will remain the case until an even bigger survey is conducted.
Key findings
An overwhelming majority of those who voted in the survey (89.7%) said they would support a campaign for an Independent Inquiry into CCFC.
There was no consensus in the survey about the idea of setting up a new ‘AFC Coventry’ Club playing in a much lower league, but there is certainly some support. 23.3% said they might support an ‘AFC Coventry’ club at some point but 2014-15 is too soon; 16.9% said they would support a new ‘AFC Coventry’ club in 2014-15 but only if it played at the Ricoh; 16.4% said they would support a new ‘AFC Coventry’ club in 2014-15 as long as it played somewhere in Coventry; 7% said they would prefer to support a current non-league team like Coventry Sphinx; 23.5% said they would never support a new ‘AFC Coventry’ club; and 12.9% said they don’t know.
A very large majority (68.7%) said they do not believe sisu will build a new stadium and only a tiny minority (2.2%) believe they will, while 22.7% believe sisu will build a new stadium if they are unable to buy the Ricoh.
If CCFC return to the Ricoh with sisu as owners, crowds will be higher than in Northampton but are likely to be lower than in 2012/13 because while 73.3% said they would attend games at the Ricoh, 19.1% said they would not attend games at the Ricoh while sisu are owners.
A clear majority of those who voted in the survey (57.7%) said the current situation facing CCFC is all or mainly the fault of sisu and only a very small minority (5.3%) said it is all or mainly the fault of ACL/Coventry City Council while (34.9%) said sisu and ACL/Coventry City Council are equally at fault.
Only a very small minority (3.7%) said the Ricoh should be sold to sisu at a cut price rate with no restrictions but several complaints were made that the wording of other answers did not provide people with the options they wanted to vote for. This question will therefore be revised and included in a second survey which will be conducted in the New Year.

About the survey
The aim of the kcic survey was to understand the views of Coventry City fans regarding the current situation facing CCFC (for more information about kcic see http://keepcovincov.weebly.com/)
There were 12 questions in the survey. All answers were completely confidential. People were not asked for name, address or telephone number. The survey was open from 9-14 December 2013 inclusive.
Due to lack of finance, the survey had to be done on a cost free basis. kcic has a website hosted by weebly which allows for individual poll questions to be set up via polldaddy.com. The 12 questions for the survey were therefore set up as 12 separate polldaddy.com polls but posted together as one webpage. Some questions did attract more votes than others e.g. the age question had one of the lowest responses, in effect meaning people voted on other questions but declined to answer the age one. In a face to face questionnaire this would be recorded as ‘no answer’.
There was no evidence of irregular voting patterns. Polldaddy.com has a ‘Block Repeat Voters’ function which was enabled for the survey questions – this meant only the first vote that was submitted was counted. One person reported they had voted three times using different computers/devices with different Internet Service Providers. There was no way of detecting this but a few people casting extra votes in a total of 1,522 falls within a normal margin of error. More importantly there was no indication of attempts to move votes in one particular direction or other; think of when betting on a horse race is sometimes suspended because bookies see a rush of bets on one particular horse – nothing like that happened with this survey.
No one knows what the make-up of the CCFC fanbase is so it is impossible to construct a representative sample, but the survey did include a range of Sky Blues supporters. If say all those responding were white men in their 50s living in Warwickshire who have supported CCFC for over 25 years and are currently boycotting all CCFC games, it would be safe to say the people responding would be only a narrow part of the fanbase. But the survey included a diverse range of fans as demonstrated in the tables on age etc and it was pleasing that the survey included people who do and don’t go to sixfields. This was an online poll. It was publicised by email, social media, in the Coventry Telegraph and on the CWR Friday phone-in. People with no internet access would not have been able to vote and ideally a hard copy of the survey would also have been available but for cost reasons this was not possible. However, it is unlikely this had any significant impact on the survey results because 83% of households in Britain have internet access and 7% of households without internet access at home have access to the internet elsewhere (http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/rdit2/internet-access---households-and-individuals/2013/stb-ia-2013.html). The question therefore is whether the relatively small proportion of fans who do not have internet access hold completely different views to those who responded to the survey, or for that matter whether those who responded to the survey hold completely different views to fans who did not complete the survey? The answer to this is we don’t know. What it is safe to say about the survey is it was completely transparent and there is no evidence of significant voting irregularities. With 1,522 votes, this is the biggest survey of CCFC fans since the Club was relocated to Northampton and a wide range of Sky Blues supporters participated The survey does not claim to provide definitive answers regarding the views of CCFC fans but it is reasonable to believe it is strongly indicative of supporters’ views and that will remain the case until an even bigger survey is conducted.
